Tetuzi Akiyama and Jeff Gburek

(Japan and New Mexico/Berlin/Amsterdam)

experimental guitarists

Tetuzi Akiyama (Tokyo) is a highly unique and experimental guitarist heavily applying free improvisation and noise. Besides guitar, he also plays electronics, viola, and self-made instruments. He has in recent years attracted tremendous interest on the Japanese and international improvised music scenes. In addition to performing many times in Europe, America, Australia, and New Zealand, he's been releasing a steady stream of solo and group recordings.

Jeff Gburek (New Mexico/Berlin/Amsterdam): Jeff Gburek has been playing guitars for 29 years and has been performing widely throughout Western Europe and the USA with dancer Ephia in Djalma Primordial Science. He employs traditional & prepared guitar techniques, along with signal processing and field recordings, to create a music drawing on the processes of musique concrete, free improv and indeterminate composition. A CD of guitar solos and electro-acoustic compositions called "Energariums" has just been released by nurnichtnur.

The evening was opened by an improvisation of Tetuzi Akiyama, Jeff Gburek, Kera Nagel and André Aspelmeier.
